Art Psychotherapy
Art therapy is a powerful means of expression that invites individuals to externalize difficult thoughts, feelings, or sensations and allows them to sit with these emotions safely and comfortably. At its core, creating an image or object provides a safe distance, enabling the processing and communication of often intangible experiences. This practice fosters space for compassion, care, creativity, and courage in our lives. Importantly, you don’t need any prior experience in art-making; your creations are not graded or judged on technical skill but are valued for what they represent and how they help you share your important story.

IFS Informed Art Therapy
IFS Therapy, or Internal Family Systems Therapy, is a therapeutic approach that focuses on understanding and harmonizing the different parts of an individual's psyche. Developed by Dr. Schwartz, this modality views the mind as made up of various "parts", each with their own feelings, thoughts, and roles. By recognizing and addressing these parts, individuals can work towards healing and achieving greater self-awareness and emotional balance. Combining art therapy with IFS Therapy enhances the therapeutic experience by allowing individuals to visualise and 'get to know' the stories, roles, concerns, and feelings of their "parts". Art therapy is a non-verbal outlet for exploring complex feelings and experiences, making it easier to access and communicate with different parts of the self. This integration can lead to deeper insights, increased emotional healing, and a more holistic approach to personal growth.

What to Expect

Once you get in touch, I will invite you to an initial consultation where together we will explore your aims and goals, and sensitively discuss your important reasons for seeking therapy. You are also welcomed and encouraged to ask me questions that inform your important decision in choosing a therapist. Gabor Maté says that finding the right therapist involves more than just professional qualifications; it's about finding a connection where you feel seen, understood, and safe. This is a time for us both to get a sense of whether I would be a good fit for you and your goals, with no pressure or obligation.

In therapy, we will work at your pace to explore your hopes and goals for therapy through ''parts'' language and artmaking. This practice can improve your relationship with your ''parts'' and create more room for compassion and care for yourself and all that you have experienced.
